It's the latest advance in non-surgical tightening and body contouring that uses radiofrequency energy to rejuvenate the skin from within. It can be used safely on areas of the face, neck, and body for improved skin tone, texture, and color.
How Thermage Treatments Work
The radiofrequency energy delivered by the Thermage handpiece stimulates the production of new collagen in the deeper layers of skin and subcutaneous tissue through selective heating. This deep heating encourages your body's natural skin renewal process, whereby sagging or wrinkled skin is replaced with skin that is tighter, smoother and younger-looking.
Unlike laser treatments and other technologies that heat the superficial skin layers, the radiofrequency technology contained in the Thermage system reaches deep into the dermis and subcutaneous tissue to stimulate new cell growth. Deep heating is combined with integrated cooling and pulse/vibration to maintain comfort during the treatment. Surface skin does not need recovery time once you leave the office.
What to Expect from Your Thermage Treatment
Treatment takes only about 45 minutes. To begin, a topical anesthetic is applied or oral sedation is administered, depending on the patient's preference. After you are comfortable, the Thermage handpiece is passed over the skin in the treatment areas. The handpiece vibrates as it works, providing a comfortable and relaxing treatment.
Recovery time is minimal and over-the-counter medication can be used if necessary to maintain comfort after treatment. Stimulation of collagen is immediate, but a noticeable tightening of the skin will be gradual, with the full effect being revealed after about 3 to 6 months as collagen gradually builds. Generally, most of our patients need only a single Thermage treatment, but some may benefit from a second treatment session.
